The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Some patients may lose the ability to taste or smell, have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhoea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don't feel unwell. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment. Around 1 out of every 6 people who gets COVID-19 becomes seriously ill and develops difficulty breathing. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness. People with fever, cough and difficulty breathing should seek medical attention.

The most important thing to know about coronavirus on surfaces is that they can easily be cleaned with common household disinfectants that will kill the virus. Studies have shown that the COVID-19 virus can survive for up to 72 hours on plastic and stainless steel, less than 4 hours on copper and less than 24 hours on cardboard. As, always clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, or nose.

According to the WHO, masks are a key measure to suppress transmission and save lives. Masks should be used as part of a comprehensive ‘Do it all!’ approach including physical distancing, avoiding crowded, closed and close-contact settings, good ventilation, cleaning hands, covering sneezes and coughs, and more. Depending on the type, masks can be used for either protection of healthy persons or to prevent onward transmission.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides updated information about cleaning and disinfecting public spaces, workplaces, businesses, schools, and homes.

CDC provides guidance on washing face coverings. OSHA suggests following those recommendations, and always washing or discarding cloth face coverings that are visibly soiled.

The following measures are not effective against COVID-2019 and can be harmful: Smoking, taking antibiotics. In any case, if you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing seek medical care early to reduce the risk of developing a more severe infection and be sure to share your recent travel history with your health care provider.

Practicing hand and respiratory hygiene is important at ALL times and is the best way to protect others and yourself. When possible maintain at least a 1 meter distance between yourself and others. This is especially important if you are standing by someone who is coughing or sneezing. Since some infected persons may not yet be exhibiting symptoms or their symptoms may be mild, maintaining a physical distance with everyone is a good idea if you are in an area where COVID-19 is circulating.

“The personnel assigned to care for my mom in her home were excellent. Their care, help, and compassion were wonderful. I highly recommend Caring Friends to others in such need. The timekeeping, billing, and administrative assistance were excellent as well.”

—Deborah W.

“Caring Friends Home Care has been nothing short of phenomenal in helping my 90-year-old loved one maintain her independence at home! Not only have they organized coverage, the Caring Friends staff have assembled a team of compatible caregivers who ‘get’ their client (who is 100% capable—in mental terms—but fragile, physically, and hard-of-hearing).”

—Amy O.

“Caring Friends caregivers have been caring for my elderly parents in their home for a year and a half. The caregivers are unfailingly kind, respectful, highly competent, reliable, and honest. I would highly recommend Caring Friends to any family looking for reliability, competence, and peace of mind.”
